Safeway Offers Personalized Savings in Hawaii

Safeway is testing an online tool that gives Hawaii residents savings on items they purchase most.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway is testing an online tool that gives Hawaii residents savings on items they purchase most.

Customers in Hawaii can join “Just for U” for free by registering their loyalty card, email address and other information via a link on Safeway's website. Once registered, they receive emails with deals on products they like. The offers are not promoted in-store.

“Everything is organized by your purchase history, so you can save more on what you actually use,” Safeway writes in promotional materials. For instance, if a shopper frequently buys strawberries, they may get an offer for a discount on strawberries. The email will also compare the offer to competitor pricing. Shoppers can then select and load the offers to their loyalty card.

"Just for U" prices are even better than the retailer’s everyday low prices and loyalty card specials, according to the Safeway website. Members can use the savings over and over again throughout the promotion period. The current period runs through Aug. 31.

“You can save more money and time on every shopping trip,” according to Safeway.

Safeway is offering a free dozen eggs to all those who register for Just for U.

A Safeway spokesman declined to comment.
