SAN ANTONIO — Food Marketing Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Sarasin urged retailers, and businesses in general, to take a more active role in shaping public policy.

Her advice was delivered a day after President Obama signed the health care reform bill, to attendees at SymphonyIRI's Reinventing CPG and Retail Summit.

"Begin to focus more on what's going on in Washington and in the state capitals because as we've seen with last Sunday's vote, weirder and weirder and weirder things are happening, that were totally unanticipated two or three weeks ago," Sarasin said. "It's imperative that we understand what's happening, that we figure out how proposals are going to effect our business and we become part of the debate as these proposals are being discussed."
