Seattle Deliveries Returning to Normal

SEATTLE — Retailers here expect business to be back to normal in the next day or so now that the roads surrounding the Greater Seattle-Tacoma area — all of which had been closed by floods the middle of last week — have reopened.

The situation resulted from heavy snowfalls earlier this month, followed by uncommonly warm weather that melted the snow, creating floods that completely closed Interstate 5, the major north-south highway, plus three mountain roads east of the area — bringing incoming grocery deliveries to a complete halt late Wednesday.

Area chains said they had adequate supplies for a few days, though perishables were beginning to run low before roads began opening again at mid-day Friday, local sources told SN.
