SEATTLE — Union workers at QFC, Fred Meyer, Albertsons and Safeway stores in the Puget Sound area here reached a tentative agreement on a new contract late Saturday, union sources said.
The agreement avoids a potential strike by two local unions of the United Food and Commercial Workers as well as a Teamsters group.
The unions represent about 17,000 workers at the chains. Earlier this month the workers authorized leaders to call a strike if an agreement was not reached by Saturday.
