BALTIMORE — A federal judge on Monday ordered Shoppers Food & Pharmacy to provide documents that might be used in the defense of Ulysses S. Currie, the Maryland state senator facing bribery charges related to work he did for the retailer.
According to local reports, U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett ordered the access over objections from Shoppers.
The Supervalu-owned chain last year agreed to pay a $2.5 million fine and cooperate in the prosecution of Currie and former Shoppers executives William White and Kevin Small, who prosecutors said used Currie’s influence to help Shoppers secure retail sites and get favorable infrastructure assistance for certain projects.
