WEST CHESTER, Pa. — A ShopRite store here completed a four-month makeover that will reduce its energy bill by approximately 20%, said Joseph Miller, president, KTM Supermarkets, owner of the store and part of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative.
“And we can pass that savings on to our customers — that’s one of the ways we can help keep ShopRite’s prices low,” said Miller in a statement.
Among the changes made by the 15-year-old store:
• Outfitting dairy cases with glass doors that reduce cooling and refrigeration costs by helping to keep cold air in the case.
• Upgrading or replacing refrigeration and lighting systems.
• Replacing old fluorescent bulbs with brighter and more energy-efficient T8 lighting.
In addition, the fresh fruits and vegetables, bakery and deli areas of the store were revamped with new display cases, new flooring and wider aisles. Major changes in the prepared-food department, include a broader selection of eat-in or take-out options, including sushi, a new soup bar, new Mediterranean olive bar as well as freshly prepared hot foods.
