ShopRite Supports Local Junior League Programs

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — ShopRite Supermarkets has donated $10,000 in cash, plus an additional $5,000 worth of food and supplies to the Junior League of Schenectady and Saratoga counties here.

In October ShopRite opened its first store in the New York Capital Region. The donation is slated to fund community programs, especially the Kids in the Kitchen program run by Schenectady County Community College. The nationwide program teaches kids about childhood obesity and eating properly.

The Kids in the Kitchen pairs Schenectady High School students with culinary students from SCCC who teach them how to prepare nutritionally balanced meals, and about culinary careers.

ShopRite’s donation is the largest single investment in the region’s Junior League in its 80-year history, according to a press statement. ShopRite is a subsidiary of the Wakefern Food Corp., Keasbey, N.J.
