LOS ANGELES — An investment firm that owns a stake in Smart & Final, based here, told its shareholders that it has raised the value of the chain by 50% over what it cost to buy in 2007, according to a report last week on smartmoney.com.

AP Alternative Assets, a fund that invests alongside Smart & Final owner Apollo Management, said the increased value reflects strong financial results at the chain, the report stated.

Smart & Final, which operates non-membership warehouse stores, also owns the Sun Harvest and Henry's chains sold by Wild Oats Markets as part that company's sale to Whole Foods Market in 2007.
