QUINCY, Mass. — The Stop & Shop-New England division of Ahold USA is moving all personnel back to its main office here after transferring some people to Braintree, Mass., while the parent company was being reorganized.

All personnel are expected to be back here by the end of the year, Tracy Pawelski, vice president, external communications, told SN.

The reorganization, which began in late 2009, involved converting Ahold USA's two operating companies — the combined Stop & Shop and Giant Foods of Landover, Md., and, separately, Giant Foods of Carlisle, Pa. — into four divisions: Stop & Shop-New England, Stop & Shop-New York metro, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle.

The reorganization was designed to put the divisions closer to the customers, Pawelski explained. With the reorganization completed, "we're streamlining the back-office functions back to Quincy to leverage the combined sales and size of Stop & Shop," she explained.

Stop & Shop owns the 10-story Quincy Tower where the offices are located. Once all personnel have moved back in, the chain's employees will occupy the entire building, Pawelski noted.
