QUINCY, Mass — Stop & Shop here plans to finish retrofitting its overhead produce track lights with energy-saving LED lighting in its more than 350 stores by the end of this year, according to Mark Macomber, the chain's energy project manager.

In addition, LED lights will be used in produce track lighting for new and remodeled stores operated by Giant of Landover, Md., Stop & Shop’s sister Ahold USA company, he said.

The LED lights replace existing metal halide lights, resulting in a 40% reduction in energy costs, Macomber said. LED lights also “"sat at least seven times longer," he noted.
