MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu yesterday announced the launch of “Simply Good Meals,” a set of branded meal-solution stations that will appear in more than 1,300 Acme, Albertsons, bigg’s, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher’s, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw’s/Star Market, Shop ’n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy stores nationwide.

Most stores will initially feature four of the Simply Good Meals destinations, with two in the produce department, one in the meat department, and another in the deli department, according to a release.

Describing how the meal stations will work, the company said that one specific type of Simply Good Meals station, known as “4:15,” will feature a selection of items needed to create a meal for a family of four in 15 minutes or less, for under $15. These meals will include selections such as ready-to-heat beef roast, with potatoes and a salad; lasagna, with salad and a French baguette; and pork teriyaki tenderloins, with a side dish and salad. Selections will initially change every other week to maintain variety, and each meal selection will include instructions to simplify preparation.

“Research shows that most people don’t know at 4 o’clock what they are having for dinner that night, and in many cases, these hurry-up meals result in less-than-balanced and more expensive food choices,” said Jim Smits, Supervalu group vice president, fresh foods merchandising. “We wanted to make it easier for our customers to answer that inevitable ‘What’s for dinner?’ question by providing them with simple, convenient, affordable ideas for creating a real home-cooked meal.”
