MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. here said Friday it planned to stage 45 grand openings around the country yesterday, including its first two stores in Alaska. One of the stores is in Wasilla, where Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, was the former mayor. The other is in Anchorage. The only states where Target does not yet operate are Hawaii and Vermont. According a report in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, two of the stores the company opened yesterday were new prototypes: a new SuperTarget in Otsego, Minn., measuring 186,000 square feet — about 12,00 feet larger than typical locations, with expanded food and electronics offerings; and a discount store in Waconia measuring 132,400 square feet. Both are certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, the newspaper reported.
