Target Sets Manhattan Debut for July 25

Target Corp. said it would open its first store in New York City's Manhattan borough on July 25.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. here said it would open its first store in New York City's Manhattan borough on July 25.

The store, to be located in the East River Plaza in the East Harlem area — near Manhattan's first Costco store — will feature more space devoted to fresh food, everyday essentials and home basics geared for apartment living, the retailer said.

Target said it has tailored the store's merchandise assortment to include a generous selection of multicultural offerings including Spanish-language and Ebony greeting cards, gospel and Latin music, Spanish-language books and movies, religious candles and a large assortment of multicultural dolls. A large assortment of apartment-appropriate items such as storage solutions, pillows and airbeds will also be available.

Area shoppers will receive customized advertising related to these offerings throughout the year.
