WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets said Tuesday it celebrated the official grand-reopening under the Tops banner of 15 stores formerly operated by Penn Traffic.

The new Tops-branded stores include 14 former Quality Markets stores in western New York and northern Pennsylvania and one former P&C store in Elmira, N.Y. Ceremonies featured the announcement of capital improvements planned for each store as part of an overall two-year, $90 million companywide capital investment program, as well as donations made on behalf of Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.

Included among the store improvements, which vary by individual store, are expanded selections of favorite brand products; the addition of bakery, deli, meat, and healthy and organic food departments, where needed; introducing Tim Hortons coffee service; and remodeling store exteriors and interiors.

All of the stores Tops acquired from Penn Traffic are slated be changed to Tops by the end of 2010.
