UFCW Files Complaint in Pathmark Closing

QUEENS VILLAGE, N.Y. — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 here on Wednesday charged A&P with violations of New York state’s labor laws in connection with the planned closure of its West Hempstead, N.Y., Pathmark store.

QUEENS VILLAGE, N.Y. — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 here on Wednesday charged A&P with violations of New York state’s labor laws in connection with the planned closure of its West Hempstead, N.Y., Pathmark store.

According to the UFCW, A&P announced the closure in violation of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which requires employers to pay workers wages for 90 days following the announcement of a closing of a facility.

The union also said it would launch a campaign to denounce worker treatment from A&P, the Montvale, N.J. operator of Pathmark stores. A&P was not immediately available for comment.
