UFCW Urges Support for April 4 Action

WASHINGTON — The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union is urging its members nationwide to join with other labor unions across the country on April 4 in a show of support for union workers.

Members are being asked to wear "solidarity stickers" on the job that read: "UFCW. Sticking together for working families." The goal, the union said, is "to make a public and workplace show of support for union rights for all workers ... to remind our political leaders it's workers who make America great."

The union is also urging members to promote unions by several means, including leafleting non-union workers about their right to join a union; organizing neighborhood walks to tell people what unions mean to workers; attending one of the rallies that will be held April 4; holding a break-room teach-in; or participating in "Labor in the Pulpits" activity on Sunday, April 3.

"In states across the country, politicians are attempting to roll back the steps forward workers have made in their fight for economic justices and the American Dream," the UFCW said in a statement. "Regardless of whether those politicians are motivated by favors to super-rich corporate donors or are out to exact political revenge, UFCW brothers and sisters have to stick together to stop the attack on the middle class."
