PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Natural and organics products distributor United Natural Foods Inc. here said Tuesday that it has named longtime foodservice distribution executive Richard Schnieders to the company’s board of directors.
Schnieders held several senior management roles at distribution concern Sysco beginning in 1992, including chief executive officer, and was a director at that company from 1997 to 2009.
Since 2009, he has focused on sustainable solutions for increasing access to fresh food, providing nutritional education and empowering local communities. Recently, Schnieders and his wife co-founded a new venture to provide healthy, affordable food to underserved communities.
His addition expands the UNFI board of directors to nine members.
