Union Wins Certification at Quebec Wal-Mart

About 150 workers at a Wal-Mart store in Hull, Quebec, became the ninth group of Canadian Wal-Mart employees to be granted union certification, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union said Thursday.

HULL, Quebec — About 150 workers at a Wal-Mart store here became the ninth group of Canadian Wal-Mart employees to be granted union certification, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union said Thursday.

The Quebec Labor Board awarded bargain rights Wednesday to the store, which applied for certification more than three years ago, the union said. The store’s adjoining Tire & Lube Express was certified as a separate bargaining unit in 2005.

Contract negotiations for the two Hull Wal-Mart units will commence as soon as possible, but bargaining dates have yet to be scheduled, the union added.
