ROANOKE, Texas — United Supermarkets said Monday it has opened a new, 200,000-square-foot distribution center here that will serve 16 of the retailer’s locations.
The Lubbock, Texas-based retailer said the new DC will deliver grocery and frozen items to the chain’s six Market Street locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, four stores in Abilene, three in Wichita Falls and one store each in Burkburnett, Graham and Vernon, beginning Nov. 7. Distribution of perishables to the stores is set to begin Dec. 1.
In addition, the new warehouse will serve as a consolidation point for deliveries bound for the chain’s other depot in Lubbock. It will be the origination point for 100% of United’s frozen food, 90% of its produce and 75% of dry grocery. It is also expected to trim 2.2 million miles from the company’s delivery travel each year.
“Our decision to build the facility in North Texas allows for further growth throughout the region and reaffirms our corporate commitment to ensuring that United guests are offered the freshest items as fast as possible,” said Chris St. Clair, executive vice president for information and logistics at United Supermarkets, which operates 50 stores in the state.
