BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart U.S. on Friday said it has named Supervalu veteran Duncan Mac Naughton chief merchandising officer, overseeing all merchandise categories for U.S. stores, effective immediately.

Since October he had been executive vice president of merchandising, overseeing consumables, health and wellness and Walmart.com. He will continue to report to Bill Simon, president and chief executive officer, Walmart U.S.

Mac Naughton left his position as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing at Minneapolis-based Supervalu in 2009 to join Wal-Mart Stores as chief merchandising officer for Walmart Canada.

Before joining Supervalu, he had held leadership positions at Kraft Foods, H.E. Butt Grocery Co. and Albertsons.

"We intend to make the shopping experience more fun for our customers through increasing promotional intensity by effectively utilizing action alley,” Mac Naughton said in a prepared statement. “In the end, it is about having great products at every day low prices."
