Wal-Mart Kicks Off Game Time Headquarters Areas

Wal-Mart Stores here has transformed more that 1,700 of its Garden Centers into one-stop shops for football tailgaiters.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here has transformed more that 1,700 of its Garden Centers into one-stop shops for football tailgaiters. The “Game Time Headquarters” areas are customized for supporters of local college and professional football teams and feature team merchandise, armchairs, meat, grills, snacks and beverages. “Wal-Mart can help tailgate enthusiasts prepare for six home games this season with enough food and gear for a special team of four for about $66 per game,” according to the retailer. The section features 2-liter bottles of Pepsi, five for $5, Lay’s or Doritos XXL Chips, two for $5, and packs of Ball Park Beef Franks, two for $5. Wal-Mart also launched a widget that allows fans to download their favorite team’s schedule, and create and send email invitations to friends for game day events. A new tool that allows shoppers to manage their guest list, plan their menu, download a shopping list ad calculate costs, is also available.
