Wal-Mart Posts Candidates’ Videos

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here posted videos yesterday from Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama on three of its websites as part of an effort to enable them “to speak directly to the Wal-Mart Moms,” the company said. Each campaign supplied its own videos, of up to three minutes each, with Obama’s showing him talking directly to the camera and McCain’s in a format more like a commercial, with McCain’s and other voices speaking over the on-screen visuals. Wal-Mart posted two videos initially: one that gives an overview of each candidate’s viewpoints, the other focusing on the economy. The company said additional videos on health care and the environment will be added before the election. The videos are accessible through WalMart.com; SamsClub.com; and WalMartStores.com. Each website also provides links to presidential candidates from the Libertarian, Constitution, Green and Independent parties. Wal-Mart said it will alert customers and employees to the Internet sites through public service announcements airing on the company’s in-store television network.
