Wegmans to Host Beer and Food Pairing Events in Pennsylvania

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans will exercise its recently affirmed right to serve beer in the Market Cafe restaurants of its Pennsylvania locations this Saturday, when it hosts beer and food pairing events.

Representatives from regional breweries and Wegmans culinary experts will be on hand to distribute beer samples and complementary food items from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its 12 Pennsylvania Market Cafes. The events are free.

Earlier this year a Pennsylvania court sided with Wegmans after the Pennsylvania Malt Beverage Distributors Association tried to block the retailer from selling beer from its Market Cafes. Wegmans was granted restaurant licenses to sell beer (limited to two six-packs) for both on- and off-premise consumption from the eateries, but the PMBDA contended that the real beer seller was Wegmans’ supermarket since Market Cafes are attached by an interior passageway to the grocery stores.
