ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets will celebrate Dyngus Day Saturday with polish food and polka music in select Buffalo stores.

Dyngus Day is a Polish-American tradition celebrating the end of the restrictive observance of lent and the joy of Easter. Its name reportedly dates back to a medieval form of the word “Dingnus,” which means “worthy, proper, or suitable.”

Buffalo, New York, is known as the Dyngus Capital of America due to its large Polish-American population.

Along with sampling authentic polish food, Wegmans will feature polka music and dance demonstrations in select stores.

“We’re here to make your Dyngus Day easy,” Wegmans writes in promotional materials. “Visit us for everything you need for your family celebration.”
