Wegmans Supports New Jersey Beer/Wine Plan

Wegmans Food Markets is encouraging shoppers to support “One Stop Shop N.J.,” a proposal to let more supermarkets sell beer and wine.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets is encouraging shoppers to support "One Stop Shop N.J.," a proposal to let more supermarkets sell beer and wine.

"We'd like to make shopping at Wegmans even better by offering these products in all of our New Jersey stores," Wegmans said in an email blast.
Wegmans operates seven stores in New Jersey.

Supermarkets in New Jersey are currently limited to owning a total of only two liquor licenses. There are two pieces of legislation before the New Jersey legislature that would permit more retail food stores to enter the beer and wine business.

"By opening liquor licenses it will bring in up to $60 million in revenue for the state," Linda Doherty, president of the New Jersey Food Council, told SN. "It will do so through the sale of licenses currently not in use, along with tax revenue from increased beverage sale."

Wegmans is asking shoppers to visit www.onestopshopnj.com to learn more about the initiative and send an email to their New Jersey state senator and assembly representative in support of the plan.
