Wegmans Va. Site Clears Hurdle

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A lawsuit that had delayed development of a Wegmans supermarket here has been thrown out, allowing the project to proceed, according to locals reports on Friday.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A lawsuit that had delayed development of a Wegmans supermarket here has been thrown out, allowing the project to proceed, according to locals reports on Friday.

The Washington Business Journal reported that the Virginia Supreme Court has dismissed the years-old suit, which objected to rezoning and special exemptions that were granted to the project. Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets told the WBJ that the 150,000-square-foot store, part of mixed-used development, would likely not open until 2013.

Wegmans currently operates 77 locations, including six in Virginia. Three stores slated to open this year include stores in Bel Air, Md.; Frederick, Md.; and Northborogh, Mass.
