SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets' team of registered dietitians have put together Weis Mystery Tours, a new field trip program that will help 3rd and 4th graders learn about the fundamentals of nutrition.

During the 90-minute tours students play the role of Weis detectives searching the store for clues to solve the Case of the Missing Energy. The program reinforces USDA's MyPyramid nutrition principles with a focus on the importance of making sensible food and exercise choices.

Kids are outfitted with detective gear, given healthy snacks and take-home packs. Teachers can access classroom support materials online. Tours are being scheduled for the upcoming school year with students from public and private schools, kids who are schooled at home, church groups and Boy and Girl Scouts troops.

"Our goal is to make the tours both fun and educational," said Karen Buch, director of lifestyle initiatives for Weis Markets, in a statement. "We believe these tours will support the fight against childhood obesity."

Tour content meets requirements to earn various Boy and Girl Scouts merit badges.
