Weis Launches 'Local and Proud of It' Produce Campaign

Weis Markets yesterday announced the launch of its new “Local and Proud of It” campaign highlighting the grocer’s commitment to offering a wide variety of locally grown produce.

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets yesterday announced the launch of its new “Local and Proud of It” campaign highlighting the grocer’s commitment to offering a wide variety of locally grown produce.

"For 97 years, we've purchased and sold local produce wherever we've operated stores," President and Chief Executive Officer David J. Hepfinger said in a release. "This year, we expect to purchase 21 million pounds of local produce from nearly 150 local producers and co-ops in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.”

The company will advertise the new program with window signs, banners and first-of-the-season signs for produce coming into season. Weis says that in-season, local produce generates 20% of the company’s total produce sales during the region’s growing season.
