BOSTON — The Whole Grains Council has announced it will offer a kit designed specifically for retailers to help them promote whole grain products throughout the store during Whole Grains Month this September, or at any other time in the future, officials said. The kit, which includes in-store signage, handouts, an aisle-by-aisle shopping list, ideas for sampling whole grains, a recipe pack and a PowerPoint presentation, can be downloaded from the Council’s website, wholegrainscouncil.org, by clicking on the Resources section. Retailers also can request the materials be sent to them on a CD. The Council first proclaimed September Whole Grains Month last year. “We chose this time of year because it’s both harvest and back-to-school time,” said Cynthia Harriman, the Council’s director of food and nutrition strategies. More than 2,000 packaged products carry the Whole Grains Council’s stamp, and increasingly retailers are promoting fresh-made deli and bakery products that qualify to carry the identification. The Store Tour Kit includes a new retailer logo that shows the whole grains stamp superimposed on a grocery cart.
