Winn-Dixie Launches Program to Help Fishermen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores here said Friday it is launching a "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" program at its 36 New Orleans-area stores that will allow customers to contribute money to a relief fund being set up through the United Way of Greater New Orleans.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores here said Friday it is launching a "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" program at its 36 New Orleans-area stores that will allow customers to contribute money to a relief fund being set up through the United Way of Greater New Orleans.

The program will allow customers to make donations at the checkstand that will be processed with their orders, a company spokesman told SN.

Earlier in the day Winn-Dixie, working with local vendors, donated 42,000 pounds of food and two semi-trailers filled with bottled water to the Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans to help fishermen who lost their jobs because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Contributing vendors included ConAgra, Continental Mills, Flowers Bakery, Frito-Lay, Lou-Ana Foods, Pepsi, Reilly's Foods, Ventura Foods, Zapp's Chips and Zatarain's.
