JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Citing improved gross margins, Winn-Dixie Stores here yesterday said it swung to a profit for the fiscal fourth quarter, posting $9.4 million in net income, vs. a loss of $5.5 million a year ago.
Sales were up 1.4%, to $1.7 billion, and identical-store sales were up 1.6%. Net income for the year, which ended June 24, totaled $39.8 million, about three times year-ago results, on a 1.2% rise in sales, to $7.4 billion. Same-store sales also were up 1.2% for the year.
