Food Lion Continues Operation Grocery Drop

SALISBURY, N.C. — One lucky neighborhood in Charlotte will receive free groceries, courtesy of Food Lion.

That’s because the city is the next stop of Food Lion’s “Operation Grocery Drop” Facebook promo. A truckload of the retailer’s My Essentials private-label groceries will be awarded to the winner and his or her neighbors.

Consumers can enter by Sept. 10 online at by “liking” the Food Lion Facebook page (www.facebook.com/foodlion), and stating why their neighborhood deserves free groceries.

The mission has already taken place in Richmond, Va., and several other areas.

Each household in the neighborhood will receive $15 to $25 worth of groceries, up to $2,500.

“Food Lion is on a mission to celebrate community spirit and help you stock your pantry,” states the retailer in promotional materials.

Just follow the Flying Piggy Bank squadron to major savings on My Essentials and Hannaford fine quality products at your Local Bottom Dollar Food. I can just imagine hundreds of pink flying piggybanks delivering bags of great My Essentials products on the doorsteps of local communities. A fun idea.
