Jewel-Osco operates 186 stores throughout greater Chicago, Indiana and Iowa. The company is the “stalking horse” bidder http://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/jewel-makes-100m-offer-19-strack-van-til-stores for 19 Strack & Van Til stores in Indiana currently under a bankruptcy auction.
Central Grocers, which is selling the stores, said in a court filing that an auction held last week did not attract any qualified bidders. The auction was adjourned and will resume on Tuesday.
