Beef Recall Expands in West

United Food Group expanded a voluntary recall of ground beef products after state of California health officials raised unspecified concerns about the additional meat.

LOS ANGELES — United Food Group expanded a voluntary recall of ground beef products after state of California health officials raised unspecified concerns about the additional meat. The callback, now approaching half a million pounds, was announced earlier this week with an initial 75,000-pound recall. At that time, suspected contamination with E. coli was cited as the reason. An additional 370,000 pounds was recalled on Wednesday evening, at the suggestion of the California State Department of Health Services. The recalled products, with sell-by dates from April 29-May 6, were shipped to grocery stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. They were sold under brand names Moran's All Natural, Miller Meat Co., Stater Bros., Inter-American Products and Bashas’. Product labels carried the establishment number “EST. 1241” inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed on the package.
