Bill Introduced to Require Cloned Food Labels

SAN FRANCISCO -- Legislators in California may soon decide how to treat food items made from cloned animals, regardless of U.S. regulators. A bill introduced in the state Senate would require labeling of meat and milk from cloned livestock. Carole Migden, D-San Francisco, who introduced the bill, said that consumers should be able to make informed decisions about what they're eating, according to published reports. The move comes after the federal Food and Drug Administration issued a preliminary report finding that meat and milk from cloned animals is safe for consumption. The agency is taking public comment on the reports findings until April.
