Food Safety Groups Agree to Combine Farm Audit Standards

To promote food safety and quality assurance for produce, GLOBALGAP and the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Institute announced yesterday that they are developing a single audit checklist for on-farm standards that will combine standards from both organizations.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — To promote food safety and quality assurance for produce, GLOBALGAP and the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Institute announced yesterday that they are developing a single audit checklist for on-farm standards that will combine standards from both organizations. The announcement came here at the SQF Institute International Conference. “Suppliers seeking SQF certification can now, at the same time, demonstrate they meet both the SQF and GLOBALGAP standards, saving time and money,” said Tim Hammonds, president and chief executive officer of the Food Marketing Institute, Arlington, Va., which oversees the SQF Institute. The SQF Institute, also based in Arlington, develops standards for general food safety practices and special controls for different commodities. GLOBALGAP, Cologne, Germany, sets voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products around the globe.
