Supermarket Chef Showdown Deadline Nov. 15

Supermarket chefs have until Nov. 15 to submit recipes into the Food Marketing Institute Supermarket Chef Showdown, which will take place at the FMI Connect conference in Chicago in June.

“This year's competition promises to be extraordinary! The recipe submissions are coming in fast and the recipes themselves rival those in the top-rated restaurants in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles — there is little doubt that this year's celebrity judges will be faced with the ultimate foodie challenge,” said Phil Lempert, Showdown executive producer and master of ceremony. “There is still time to enter — but don't wait till the last day! The deadline is midnight on Nov. 15.”

SN is a media sponsor of the event.

Supermarket chefs can enter their recipes at SupermarketChefShowdown.com in up to five categories, including: Healthy Meals, Family Meals, Ethnic Meals, Dessert and Side-Dishes/Mini Meals/Snacks. All recipes must use at least three eligible ingredients and take 20 minutes or less to prepare (not including baking or cooling time).

There’s no cost to enter.

The top 25 finalists will receive an all-expense paid trip to Chicago to compete live in front of celebrity judges in a special kitchen stadium created on the convention floor at FMI Connect on June 11, 2014, at McCormick Place.

“It’s like Iron Chef for Supermarket Chefs,” said Lempert, who is also an SN contributing editor and is chief executive officer of SupermarketGuru.com. “It’s so fun, and this year looks to be no different with supermarket chefs from all over entering. It’s great competition, but also fun for networking and sharing culinary secrets.”

The top 25 finalists will also receive culinary gifts from Showdown sponsors shipped directly to their homes. Prizes for winners this year include an all-expense paid trip for two to Mardi Gras 2015, an all-expense paid trip to California to participate in the olive harvest, a “Chicago experience,” cash prizes, food-centric prizes, bragging rights and more.
