Ahold USA Announces Sustainable Seafood Partnership
Jul 23, 2008 5:48 PM
QUINCY, Mass. — Ahold USA grocery chains Stop & Shop, Giant Food and Giant Food Stores yesterday announced their support of the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions' Common Vision, a program focused on protecting the health of the oceans, and the long-term seafood supply, by working with companies to develop and implement sustainable seafood policies. Their support of the Common Vision program, along with their continuing partnership with the New England Aquarium, demonstrates Ahold USA’s commitment to offer seafood from environmentally friendly sources, the company said in a release. “We have access to the kind of knowledge and expertise that allows us to be better informed on what we buy and how it affects the world around us,” said Donald Sussman, Stop & Shop and Giant Food’s executive vice president of merchandising and supply chain. “We’re able to evaluate available seafood and ensure what we purchase is done with full knowledge of how the species are caught, the health of their stocks, and how quickly the species are replenished. We also understand that the path to sustainability is a long road, and that we still have a lot of work to do.”
