Group Certifies FreshDirect's Sustainable Seafood
NEW YORK -- FreshDirect, an online fresh food grocer and delivery service based here, has been recognized by the Marine Stewardship Council as a purveyor of sustainable Alaska salmon, Pacific halibut and Pacific sablefish. The MSC, a global, non-profit organization with U.S. offices based in Seattle, said FreshDirect is the first U.S. online retailer to offer seafood certified under the MSC eco-label. In addition to the MSC-certified species it currently offers, FreshDirect plans to add additional varieties to its sustainable category in the near future, the company said in a release.Subscribe / Renew to Supermarket News
