Thirty-five teams competed against each other this year to see who could barbecue the best Rancher's Reserve beef brisket.

Team Bobby-Q took first place in the chicken category, second place in the overall competition, and earned the prestigious title of “Rancher's Reserve Beef BBQ Champion” along with $2,000 in prize money.

The 2008 Safeway Barbecue Battle was the first-ever Memphis in May and Kansas City Barbecue Society dual-sanctioned barbecue competition in America.
