Four Retailers Receive Beef Backer Awards

TAMPA, Fla. — Four supermarket retailers — Boulim’s Fresh Foods, Redner’s Warehouse Markets, Harris Teeter, and Tops Friendly Markets  — were named Beef Backer Award winners at the 2013 Cattle Industry Annual Convention and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s annual trade show held here last week.

The retailers are recognized for their outstanding efforts to market and merchandiser beef in their meat cases.

This is the third year in a row that nine-unit Broulim’s Fresh Foods, Rigby, Idaho, has been named a winner in the Independent retailer category.

In the mid-size retailer category, 42-unit Redner’s Warehouse Markets, Reading, Pa., was the award-winner, and in the large chain category, Harris Teeter, Charlotte, N.C., with 211 stores, won the Beef Backer Award for the fifth time.

Meanwhile, Tops Friendly Markets, Williamsville, N.Y., was received a Beef Backer Award for being Innovator of the Year.

The awards program is funded by the Beef Checkoff Program.

“The beef industry depends on retailers of all sizes to promote and sell the fresh and wholesome beef us ranchers provide,” said Brett Morris, an Oklahoma-based producer and chairman of the checkoff’s 2012 Joint Retail Committee, in a news release announcing the winners.

“We’re proud to be able to honor the most innovative and dedicated of these retailers with our annual Beef Backer Award…we’re thrilled to see retailers using checkoff-funded programs to educate shoppers about beef choices and drive beef sales.”
