Loblaw Adds More Local Beef

BRAMPTON, Ontario — Loblaw Cos. announced it is expanding its local beef program to 46 more stores.

The Ontario Corn Fed Beef program was originally rolled out in 158 stores in 2011 and now will be available a total of 200 of Loblaw’s 1,027 stores.

The Ontario banner stores Loblaws, Loblaw great food, Bloor Street Market, and Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens now join Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs markets, Zehrs greatfood, and Valu-mart in offering Ontario Corn Fed Beef.

"We know our customers want to buy locally sourced products, so continuing to strengthen our ties to Ontario farmers is a natural step for us," said Rodney Koning, vice-president of meat and seafood, Loblaw Cos. in a press release. "Working with local farmers through the Ontario Corn Fed Beef program delivers a taste and quality that meets our high standards at great prices for our customers, and by expanding our distribution to include more than 200 corporate and franchised stores this year in Ontario, we are meeting the demand for the product too."

The retailer said this initiative reinforces its “Canadian First” commitment to source local and regional products “when the safety, quality, availability and value are right for our customers.”

Starting May 11, a rancher will come to certain Loblaw banner stores to offer customer samples and information as part of the Ontario Corn Beef Barbecue tour.
