Sobeys will primarily sell local beef at its Sobeys, Foodland and Co-op stores in Prince Edward Island, the retailer announced.

Along with supplier Atlantic Beef Products, Sobeys worked with local cattle producers over the last 18 months to increase herd sizes to meet demand.

All cuts of beef will be sold at 13 P.E.I. stores under ABP’s Island View Farms brand.

“Our commitment to local beef has never been stronger,” Peter Doucette, general manager, Sobeys Atlantic, said in a press release. “This partnership means P.E.I. customers can choose local first, it means larger herd sizes for P.E.I. and Maritime beef cattle producers, and it means ABP has a committed local partner as it increases plant capacity and grows its business.”
