Ahold Names Schlicker CEO of Stop & Shop

AMSTERDAM — In a move signaling that a new phase is beginning in the repositioning of its largest U.S. banners, Ahold here has appointed Carl Schlicker as the new president and chief executive officer of Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover. Schlicker, currently CEO of Ahold’s Giant-Carlisle division, will succeed Jose Alvarez in the top spot at Stop & Shop/Giant, with Alvarez being named executive vice president of global business development, Ahold said. Caro Bamforth, a spokeswoman for Ahold, told SN the changes mark the completion of new lower pricing under the Value Improvement Program and the beginning of an effort to communicate those values to consumers. Lawrence Benjamin, chief operating officer of Ahold USA, has been nominated to serve on Ahold’s corporate executive board, the company added.
