Aldi Set to Debut 1,000th Store

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — An Aldi store set to open here next week will mark the 1,000th U.S. location in the chain, the Batavia, Ill.-based retailer said Wednesday.
Aldi opened 100 new stores in 2008, including the new markets of Rhode Island and Florida, and is on pace to open more than 80 stores in 2009, the company said.
The discounter opened its first Connecticut store in 1997 and currently operates 12 stores in the state, including the new West Haven store, scheduled to open on Monday, March 23. Aldi plans to open approximately six additional Connecticut stores in 2009.
