A&P Partners With Medtipster

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P announced a partnership last week with Medtipster, a recently launched online service that allows consumers to find affordable equivalents to their prescription drugs, including $4 generic drugs and therapeutic alternatives. The website, www.medtipster.com, allows consumers to search for the least expensive prescription drugs in their local area by ZIP code.

As a subscriber to the service, A&P pays an undisclosed fee per month, per store, that allows A&P to list prescription drug pricing available at 251 A&P pharmacies.

“A&P and Medtipster share a similar goal when it comes to prescription medications, and that is to help Americans save money,” said Carol DiNicolantonio, A&P’s senior director of pharmacy, in a prepared statement.

The Troy, Mich.-based Web company was launched in January. According to Jeff Polter, executive vice president of product development, there are 150-160 retail pharmacy companies currently being signed up as subscribers.

As a subscriber to the site, A&P boosts awareness of its generic drug programs.

“About 90% of consumers only know Wal-Mart or Target discount drug programs. So organizations like A&P struggle to get the world to know they have generic drug programs too,” said Polter. He said the goal is to make Medtipster, a price-comparison tool to lower health care costs, the equivalent to what Orbitz or Travelocity are in the travel industry.

Since its launch the site has drawn about 30,000 consumers. There are about 60,000 pharmacies nationwide that participate in the price-comparison service.
