Beauty Care Seen as First Step to Wellness
May 26, 2010 5:05 PM
CHICAGO — Beauty care is an integral part of today's health and wellness platform, said Thom Blischok, global president of innovation & strategy, SymphonyIRI Group here during a webinar on Wednesday on "Redefining Health and Beauty Care for Untapped Profit Potential."
"The first stage of health and wellness is beauty," he said. "People want to look good to feel good. This is a major shift in thinking. Health and wellness is holistic and not about medicines only or beauty used in salons or the home. It is about a concept."
The research presented showed that 92% of beauty care shoppers are brand loyal. However, they do seek value and 25% of them are shifting to lower cost channels. Blischok said retailers should position their departments as health, beauty, wellness rather than health and beauty care to take advantage of the shopper's focus on wellness going forward.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores hosted the webinar on the eve of its Marketplace Conference, June 5-8 in San Diego.
