Bernauer Emphasizes Technology, Supply Chain at NACDS

PALM BEACH, Fla. — At the Annual Meeting of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, Alexandria, Va., this past weekend, outgoing board Chairman David Bernauer, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Walgreen Co., Deerfield, Ill., urged a continued emphasis on health information technology and supply chain cooperation to capitalize on pharmacy and front-end opportunities. “There are so many things that we all do, but all do differently. These are not the stuff of which competitive differentiators are made. Through cooperation, we can greatly increase pipeline efficiency for all of us, and ultimately help America’s global leadership and competitiveness,” Bernauer said. He emphasized various front-end measures, including pipeline effectiveness; data synchronization; radio frequency identification standards; and collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment standards, among others.
