SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y Foods here announced yesterday that it has just completed the expansion of its Big Y Distribution Center in Chicopee, Mass. Storage capacity was doubled through the addition of 100,000 square feet of warehouse racking, which encompasses 450 bays and 4,692 pallet positions for storage of more than 1,500 Big Y-branded items, some national brands and seasonal products. Big Y, which supplies almost 60 retail stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut, acquired this facility in order to expand its distribution services in 2003. The chain also operates a facility here. As previously reported, Big Y recently switched suppliers from C&S Wholesale Grocers, Keene, N.H., to Bozzuto’s, Cheshire, Conn.
