CINCINNATI — Kroger banned pharmacy customer Thomas Stone from its stores “due to the impasse over your use of multiple coupons at many of our pharmacies,” according to a letter Stone provided to the Cincinnati Post late last week. Stone spends as much as $20,000 a year on about a dozen prescription drugs that he takes to combat medical conditions that include high blood pressure, high cholesterol and allergies. Stone acknowledged that he tries to take advantage of the coupon offers and plays "Rx Ping-Pong" by transferring prescriptions from one drug store to another. He said he used an average of seven coupons per month with Kroger during the nine months this year when he was allowed to use the Kroger pharmacy, the report said. However, in an interview with the paper earlier in the week, Kroger spokeswoman Meghan Glynn said Kroger's banishment of Stone from its stores was not due to the dispute about how he uses coupons. "There are other matters that I'm not able to discuss and will be handled by the proper authorities," she said, declining to elaborate.
